A very popular competition sponsored this year by Mike and Jean Pledge.
This competition was started in 2006 by Joyce and Wally Hallows for married couples. The format has not changed since then with 9 holes scramble, 9 holes Better Ball and 9 holes Greensomes. 36 pairs of halves and better halves were taking part and it could have been many more ! 2 pairs pulled out and gave a chance to another 2 pairs to be involved. If Pestana had given us a few more tee times on top of the extra ones they had already given us, no doubt they would have been filled … Mike and Jean treated all players at the end of the 10th hole with drinks, sweet (yummy chocolate brownies and ginger cakes) and savory (smoked salmon blinis and sausage rolls).. Many thanks, it was scrumptious. All the cards were ready at the start with names, handicaps, strokes given etc. What a treat and a lot of work for Mike and Jean but much appreciated. And now for the prizes Very close scores with 2 pairs on 45 points not getting anything after count back !! 5th 45 points Norah Aitchison and Ian Hislop 4th 45 points on c/b Barbro and Lars Thorén 3rd 45 points also on c/b Allison and John Hudson 2nd 46 points Bernadette and Paul Barrow 1st 46 points on c/b (last 3 holes) Marina and Bob Bessell As far as I know no divorce lawyers have yet been approached … Wonderful day, wonderful and generous day organised by Mike and Jean celebrating 25 years of life together. Congratulations and thank you from all of us. Next week end is the Club Championship so until then Bye for now MP . The summer is over, children back at school, time to be in Portugal and enjoy the beautiful weather and the company of friends.

Extra tee times are difficult to get but Ricardo is doing his best to help. Thank you. So what about today's Sunday Funday ? Our ladies Vice Captain, Sue Mortimer, was in charge, doing a wonderful job with the help of Gavin and Beate in charge of the photos. Great day for everyone. Next Sunday is Anniversary Cup which is being sponsored by Jean and Mike Pledge. So until then Bye for now MP Apologies for the delayed update following our final match of the season last week away at Penina.
Unfortunately, we lost the match 3-2 but still gained valuable points towards our goal for this year of remaining in Division 2. Congrats to Ian and Theresa and David Lyttle and Mark Taylor for winning their matches. At the moment, we still lie in 3rd place overall, however, some teams below us have still matches to play. As our 2025 season draws to a close, I would just like to thank everyone who has played for the team over the last few months for their time and support both home and away. Additionally, I must also thank those who have entered their names on the website offering to play but weren’t selected. Please keep supporting the team and I will try to include as many people again going forwards into the 2026 season. Best wishes for the rest of the year Kind regards Dave Please click below to enjoy an article in the Portugal News about our recent coffee morning at which 3,333 euros was collected for the captains' charity
https://www.theportugalnews.com/news/2025-10-03/charity-morning-coffee/894342 Despite heavy rain showers and strong winds being forecast today, the weather turned out to be almost pleasant. It seems hurricane Gabrielle decided to pass us by, although we had a couple of very light and short showers. Our original field of 74 players was whittled down to 39, including 4 guests; Ray Stollery and Terry Bradon, Andy Gass and Eugene Deeny.
The format was kept deliberately simple and fairly quick, since everyone was keen to get home to watch the final day of the Ryder Cup! Today was the best 2 Stableford scores to count on each hole, with front nine scores versus back nine. We had quite a wide spread, separating the 1st and 10th teams - 17 points, which is a bit more than usual, however the scores were very tight for the top 3 places, with countback deciding each place. The results were: 10th place: (consolation prize) Anne T/ Bryan C/ Terry B/ Ray S 35 points 3rd place: Asa B/ Andy B/ Marilyn L/ David L. 51 points (c/b) 2nd place: Clive D/ Marina B/ Lisa H/ Peter H 52 points (c/b) 1st place: Ulf B/ Bob B/ Barbara B/ Sandi B. 52 points Congratulations to all the winners, well played! Don't forget to sign up for next week, see you all there. Alison Ladies Captain - Carvoeiro GCC A very popular board competition when the numbers of entrants were higher than the numbers of spaces .......The weather was lovely but with some very strong gusts of wind which affected some of the play !
There were 17 tee times, 68 players playing a Greensomes format. 4 members were unable to win prizes as it was a mixed competition. So they were hoping to win nearest the pin prizes ! But Josh de Raaij and Kevin Morgan scored a magnificent 47 points to no avail … Karen Stanton, Deputy Competition Secretary, was running the show for the day . So here are the winners Nearest the Pin - ladies - hole 4 : Lizee McGraw Nearest the Pin - gents - hole 10 : Gernot McSchmid Nearest the Pin in 2 - team - hole 3 : Sue & Gavin Mortimer Nearest the Pin in 2 - team - hole 8 : Jean & Mike Pledge 3rd 40 points MP & Guy Norgrove 2nd 41 points Lizee McGraw & Hugh Duncan 1st 41 points on c/b Linda & Bruce Cooke Thank you to our Captains for giving away the prizes and thank you to Karen for a great organisation So until next Sunday - Bye for now - MP |
