The match was played on 4th April after being postponed on the original date due to poor weather. Unfortunately, the weather today was not much better and not very kind to all participants with a mixture of heavy rain, winds and some sunny spells. A big thank you to all those who played.
As expected, the home team Vila Sol performed well with the best score of the day of 199 points. CGCC scored 187 points, 3rd on the day. We are now in the overall standings in third place going into the last round at Pinta on Monday 21st April. Its going to be a tough task as we will need the leaders to have a bad day and for our team to score well. Fingers crossed. Ken Napier Gent’s Captain.

What fabulous weather for Sunday Funday which was following the All Winners Bowl Competition which had been postponed due to the very heavy rain over the past few weeks.
The All Winners Competition was won by our gents captain Ken Napier with 36 stableford points beating Hugh Duncan on countback. Derek Shewan was third with 34 points. It was not a very big field for Sunday Fun Day as those 20 All Winners were not involved ! Great format of “improve your front 9” and very welcome as we had lost 1 hour sleep !!! Our Lady Captain was running the competition with Ian, her helper for the day. 43 players enjoyed the challenge and here are the winners 3rd 51 points Anita Foster, Steph O’Reilly, Stephen Walker and Bob Bessell 2nd 51 points on c/b Jean Pledge, Bert Brett, Bryan Cummings and Robin Hadden 1st 55 points Karen Hadden, Jane Conyers, Pat O’Reilly and Mike Pledge Next week our Vice Captains will be running the show. What are they planning ? Well enter the competition and you will find out !!!! Apologies to our Captains but in my last blog I forgot to mention that on their Captains Drive In day, they had treated all players to pizza and chips. It was much appreciated, thank you, but, no, we do not expect that every week !!!! Bye for now MP Our 2nd match of the 2025 campaign took place yesterday at Benamor GC near Tavira on a beautiful warm Spring Day.
The Benamor course was in great condition even allowing for the recent non- stop rain with manicured tees band fairways and fast true greens. All 5 matches were fairly close but unfortunately the home team, Benamor, won 3 matches to 2 which is never a bad result away from home and on an unfamiliar course which only 3 out of the 10 CGCC players had played before. Special well done to Chris and Liz W and Gavin and Kevin C winning their matches. Next week sees us travelling to Pinheiros Altos for another away game and the update blog will follow soon after. Regards Dave Lightburn Many brave players took part in the Vice Presidents Cup, battling the rain and the strong winds on Saturday at Gramacho.

Bye for now Alison and Ken, our Captains for 2025, with the support of their Vice Captains, Sue Mortimer and Peter Hill were today leading a field of 60 players for their Captains Drive In. A fun competition of 2 scores to count with a joker, having to decide before playing, 1 hole on the front 9 and 1 on the back where the score would count double. … Many members were on the tee at 7.50 to watch the Captains taking their drive and hoping their bet was the right length of drive !! And apart from a little shower, the weather was clement !!! May be at last the rain is not coming back !!!
