Despite the beautiful, sunny weather, it was a chilly start to the morning 🥶. Of course that depends upon where you normally live! A few people did turn up in shorts! 😳
We had 46 players today, with a few cancellations due to nasty colds etc. And so 12 teams braved their way around the course, trying to dodge the remnants of the storms and tornado from last year. The format was Front nine versus Back nine, with the best 2 Stableford scores to count on each hole. Instead of the usual Nearest the Pins prizes today, I decided to award somewhat different prizes, in the spirit of "Funday". The results were as follows: The team Captain who completed the Neatest card: Steve Alexus ( winning a lovely big bar of Toblerone chocolate) The Team Spot prize (Random draw of non winning team to win bottles of red wine) Larry Simpson, Josi Simpson, Bruce Cooke, Simone Morgan And now for the other prizes: Consolation prize: Robin H/ Linda C/ Malcolm S/ Maren B 3rd place: Ian W/ Bert B/ Kerstin A/ Mike P - 48 points 2nd place: Ian McM/ Alison McM/ Jim H/ Michelle H - 49 points 1st place: Kevin M/ Steve M/ Liz Reid/ John Reid - 54 points Congratulations to all the winners, well done! Thank you to everyone who played today and a special thank you to Gina Beadle and Judy Lench, who kindly agreed to be Hidden Partners at late notice.

It was good to see everyone out on the golf course again after all the Christmas and New Year festivities, and because of all the booze consumed over the last couple of weeks, the prizes today were all non-alcoholic!
We played a front 9 versus back 9 format with 3 scores to count on each hole. Despite a little light rain, we were fortunate with the weather and saw a fair bit of winter sunshine too. After welcoming guests to the comp, prizes were awarded as follows: Nearest the Pin chocolates to Diane Swift & Sylvia Hammer on holes 5 & 15 Team Prizes: 1st: posh olive oil & chocs to John Lucas, Lizee McGraw, Ulf Baggström & Sue Mortimer 2nd: olive oil & chocs to Karen & Robin Hadden & their guests Kevin & Gill Fearon 3rd: box of chocs to Gernot MacSchmid, Jűrg Kernen, Robert & Sylvia Hammer 4th: tin of biccies to Kevin Crowe, Thomas Sattler, Athena Barrett & Michael Fienberg 5th: After 8 chocs to Gavin Mortimer, Ken Napier, Richard & Jane Conyers 6th: choc truffles to Keith Roberts, Michaela Krug, Robert & Judy Lench Perhaps not the best prizes for those of you with new year resolutions to lose weight, but no one can resist chocolates at the end of the day! So, the beginning of a new golfing year, wishing all our members a Happy & Healthy 2026 Sue Mortimer Ladies VC Dear Members - the Bombeiros were most grateful for this year's Christmas Hampers. Your generosity and enthusiasm excelled all previous collections and not only did we have Hampers for all 18 stations but also 'secret santa' gifts for 180 personnel who spent their seasonal holidays selflessly working. (Yes a great deal of wrapping). Thank you all very much for supporting this worthwhile cause.....Archie and Lizee McGraw
The first Hangover Trophy Competition, initiated by Jürg, took place on the 1st of January on the Gramacho Golf course. 11 teams were competing for this prestigious prize.
The format was a Shamble over 9 holes, with minimum 1 drive and maximum 4 drives per player. 2 Stableford scores to count on the par 4s, one score on the par 3s and 3 on the par 5s. At the end we congratulated the 4 teams that one a prize. 4th place with 44 points (on count back): Richard Conyers, Jane Conyers, Karen Stanton and Ken Napier 3rd place with 45 points: John Hudson, Jürg Kernen, Josi Simpson and Bill Honour (Guest) 2nd place with 46 points: Gavin Mortimer, Karen Hadden, Christian Barthel and Beate Kernen 1st place with 47 points: Robin Hadden, Athene Barrett, Alison and Chris Wakefield Not only winning a bottle of wine but also the prestigious lemon, which is the true trophy for this event since it was invented in 2024 by Jürg for a small group. Beate Kernen. Well the day started with rain but by the time the first group started it had stopped. So off we all went to play ! Unfortunately it did return a few times but we bravely stuck it out ☔️☔️
Pat had organised the competition as his birthday event. It was 3 scores to count on every hole. However, only 12 holes were to be used in the competition. We were all hoping that our good holes would remain ! When the first group arrived back, Daniella picked the holes from the hat so there could be no question of skullduggery 🤣🤣 As if there would ! Quite a few teams were unhappy to lose their best scores but Daniella had no sympathy whatsoever ! There were 6 team prizes to collect, one kindly donated by Sue Mortimer and the first by Pat. After everyone singing Happy Birthday ( not quite in tune !) the prizes were presented.
