It was a rather damp and chilly start to the morning as we gathered on the first tee. A total of 30 teams of 2 had entered the competiton, many of whom had returned from visiting family abroad. So, lots of "Happy New Year" greetings and quite a few " don't come near me, I'm full of germs!"
The format was the usual Stableford 2 ball betterball, with 85% of playing handicap. As the wind increased during the morning, that became more of a challenge! However, we still had some decent scores and a very close result for the top 5 places. The results were: 5th place : Marjorie Forsyth and Jim Willens, 41 points (countback) 4th place : Beate and Juerg Kernen, 41 points 3rd place : Michaela Krug and Klaus Falkenberg, 42 points (countback) 2nd place : Sarah and Clive Matthews, 42 points 1st place : Asa and Ulf Baggstrom, 43 points Well done to all the prize winners, and a big congratulations to Asa and Ulf on winning the trophy! A special mention should go to Paarvo Hannula who achieved a hole-in-one on the 10th 👏🏻. Well done, Paarvo, and many thanks for your generosity at the bar afterwards!! Alison McMahon Ladies Vice Captain Well everyone, this is it !! Today was the last Sunday Funday for 2024 .....
36 players including one guest Jamie Hadden. Jurg’s son in law, Roger, was the unofficial “official” photographer, taking photos at the start of the delayed tee times. Yes winter is definitely here, Jack Frost deciding to take part today, and after a delay of 30ish minutes, the teams were raring to go !!! Great format of 1, 2, 3 scores and improve on the front 9 if you can !!! And now prizes ? Nearest the Pin in 1 (hole 4) Guy Norgrove Nearest the pin in 2 (hole 8) Captain Jurg 5th 48 points Alison McMahon, Barry Ribchester, Marjory Forsyth and Jim Willens 4th 49 points Asa Baggstrom, Maren Barthel, Peter Cartwright and Guy Norgrove 3rd 50 points Juliet Smith, Pat Roberts, Klaus Falkenberg and Kevin Crowe 2nd 51 points Steph O’Reilly, Bert Brett, Ulf Baggstrom and Captain Jurg 1st 54 points Audrey Rush, MP (ie me !), John Reid and Richard Conyers So everyone Happy New Year and see many of you at the first Sunday Funday of 2025 on 5th January at Gramacho 🍾🎆🎄😊🎉🎊 Has anyone recently looked at the Trophies Cabinet at Gramacho ?
If so you will have noticed a big change ! One of our very talented member (Liz Reid) has updated the contents and instead of needing reading glasses and trying to see engraved names on the cups, the winners names of every cup have been displayed for all to see. The names obviously will be changed to the winners names after the competitions. The boards are updated yearly so winners will always have their names displayed for “posterity”. So why not take a photo, if you have won, and display it in the comfort of your home ? Bye for now MP Today was the penultimate Sunday game for 2024 and the last Sunday Funday before Christmas.
Only 32 members were playing, most players having gone to different parts of the world to celebrate Christmas with family and friends. The weather was glorious for late December, short sleeves were “de rigueur” ! What to say about the format of the competition ? It was “the par 4s are lost” becoming par 5s as played once before .... Shambles, 2 scores to count, and yellow and red or white and yellow ... (I think some of us struggled a bit with that...). So what were the results ? Nearest the Pin in 3 (hole 6) Ian Wylie Nearest the Pin (hole 10) Karen Staton And now for the main prizes of red wine .. Very close results 4th 118 points Asa Baggstrom, Mike Pledge, Mark Williamson and MP (ie me !) 3rd 119 points Lady Captain Beate, Keith Robert’s, Neil Stanton and Kevin Crowe 2nd 120 points Liz Reid, Jean Pledge, Bob Bessell and Ulf Baggstrom 1st 120 points on c/b (the last 6 holes) Michaela Krug, Debbie Williamson, Jim Willens and Ian Wylie. And the team also won Finbar Hanagan (ie Barry Harris) latest book. Next Sunday is the ultimate Sunday Funday of 2024 so if you are around, come and play. Bye for now MP Grateful appreciation to members for their generosity - this year the donations and provisions were amazing. The hampers have all been assembled and will be distributed on Christmas Eve
